DISTRICT DESCRIPTION:

The Aspen/Phenix District encompasses an area on the western side of the County and includes the incorporated town of Phenix. Places of interest located in this District are Red Hill (last home and burial place of Patrick Henry), Staunton Hill (The David K. Bruce Estate), Ridgeway Farms, Gravel Hill Plantation, and the Clarkton Bridge. Mr. Hamlet worked to get the first and only Public Boat Landing in Charlotte County which is located on the Staunton River in the Aspen/Phenix district. He also played an important role in renaming the bridge over Cub Creek near Phenix as the Millard B. Rice, Jr. Memorial Bridge.

PERSONAL:

Born January 18, 1944 in Newport News, Virginia. At age one, moved to Charlotte County where he continues to reside.

  • Charlotte County Board of Supervisors, since 1991 - Chairman in 2006 & 2007, Vice-Chairman for two years

  • Virginia Farm Bureau Flue-Cured Tobacco Advisory Board
  • Charlotte County Farm Bureau since 1991 - Former Vice-President
  • South Boston Tobacco Warehouse Association - Former Vice-President
  • Bethel Baptist Church, Active member (former Deacon)

EMPLOYMENT:

Owns and operates a beef cattle farm and cash hay business in Charlotte County.

Retired General Manager of Virginia Dark-Fired Tobacco Growers Association, Virginia Sun-Cured Tobacco Cooperative, Dark Tobacco Sales Cooperative and formerly employed by the Soil Conservation Service.
